4Runner

First Generation 4Runner - 1984-89

The Toyota 4Runner was introduced as an '84 1/2 year model with solid axle front end and leaf springs front and rear. In 1986-89 models the front end was changed to a torsion bar IFS configuration with leaf springs in the rear.
Second Generation 4Runner - 1990-95

A new body style with more curved features came with the second gen 4runner, as did a 3VZE V6 engine. Front suspension remained torsion bar IFS and rear changed to coil springs.
Third Generation 4Runner - 1996-2002

Minor body changes but newer more powerful 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder engines. IFS front suspension changed to coil-over strut design, rear remained coil springs.
Fourth Generation 4Runner - 2003-2009

Significant body style changes and an optional V8 engine. Coil over IFS front suspension and coil spring rear.
Fifth Generation 4Runner - 2010+

Radically new body style with a new 270hp V6 (more power than the previous V8). Coil over IFS front suspension and coil spring rear.
